WAFB Channel 9 is set to launch a new 4:30 a.m. newscast on Sept. 12. 9News this Morning: Early Edition will be a half-hour program on weekdays, with a heavy emphasis on overnight news, weather forecasts and travel information, says Robb Hays, WAFB news director. “This will be more fast-paced and straightforward, with ag forecasts, fishing forecasts, travel forecasts,” Hays says. Matt Williams will anchor the early morning program, while Diane Deaton will provide weather forecasts and Johnny Ahysen will discuss traffic. Hays says the trend of 4:30 a.m. newscasts is spreading across the country as TV stations try to add to their morning news programs and capture early risers. —Timothy Boone
