The first round of annexation requests out of the prospective city of St. George are expected to head to a vote at Wednesday’s Metro Council meeting.

Eight companies are included in the first round of annexation requests—all of which are located along United Plaza Boulevard—and will go before the council Wednesday.

The request from III United Plaza, located at 8555 United Plaza Blvd., was the first to come in after October’s vote to incorporate the proposed city of St. George.

III United Plaza’s neighbor, Turner Industries, is also seeking annexation. Turner Industries was the sixth property owner along United Plaza Boulevard to request annexation in early December.

Also on the agenda, the Metro Council will look for a third time at a tire shredder agreement with Baum Environmental Group Inc. that was approved back in September.

Councilwoman Chauna Banks has opposed locating the shredder in her district and has demanded information about the business plan, operations and sustainability of the proposed program.

The agreement has already been signed by the mayor. Banks is asking the council to rescind the deal Wednesday. Read a column from Business Report Editor Stephanie Riegel about the ongoing tire shredder controversy here and Wednesday’s full agenda here.
