Mayor Kip Holden has beefed up security around his administration’s offices with the help of a Homeland Security grant. The work, which was reported in today’s Advocate, involved adding security cameras and a keypad lock to prevent intruders from entering the mayor’s suite from the outer lobby. The upgrades cost about $8,000, according to the newspaper. John Carpenter, Holden’s chief administrative officer, says the security upgrades came after a homeless man entered the waiting area in the mayor’s office and refused to leave. Carpenter notes the additional security is not just for Holden but for his staff and visitors, too.
Today’s poll question: Should Mayor Kip Holden have spent funds from a Homeland Security grant on improving security to his office?
