Southeastern Louisiana University students have snatched up every bit of available campus housing. The university has nine residence halls that together house nearly 1,700 students. Two additional complexes — Southeastern Oaks, with two- and four-bedroom apartments, and The Village, designed as organizational housing — house an additional 600 students. “Demand for housing at Southeastern has reached its highest level in more than 25 years,” says Assistant Vice President for Operations Sam Domiano. “The residence halls have consistently been at or near full capacity since the completion of our new facilities in 2005; however, the demand has continued to increase.” Southeastern has reported that numbers of beginning freshmen, transfer and graduate students are up this fall. The economy may also be a factor, since campus housing is cheaper than off-campus options. To meet increasing demand, Southeastern has doubled some private rooms, tripled some double rooms and created a waiting list of about 150 students.
