At the table: Tommy Spinosa, manager of JTS Management Co.—the firm behind many local projects including Perkins Rowe and Rouzan—recently served as a featured panelist at a daylong symposium in Cambridge, Mass., focusing on the opportunities and challenges facing designers developers, retailers, investors and communities in an aging society. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology AgeLab hosted the event, in partnership with AARP. JTS Management Director of Real Estate Jonann Stutzman, who also attended, says, “The knowledge that we gained by participating was astounding.”

Making it count: Louisiana Secretary of State Tom Schedler has extended the deadline to receive military and overseas ballots by one day in light of the state of emergency in the Northeast caused by Superstorm Sandy. “When I went to the Middle East in September to visit with members of our armed forces, I promised them that I would make sure their vote counted,” Schedler says in a prepared statement. “This is one simple way my office can honor that sacrifice.” Parish Board of Election supervisors have been notified that military and overseas ballots will continue to be accepted as long as they are received by Wednesday. The previous deadline was Tuesday.

In the hat: A total of $6 million worth of projects in the Capital Region are included in the Capital Outlay budget request sent to a Joint Legislative Committee by the Division of Administration today. The projects will be up for final approval by the State Bond Commission on Nov. 15. Included in the Capital Region are recommendations for funds to resurface La. 1 from Plaquemine to White Castle; to renovate the Southern University Lab School; to build the Louisiana Automotive Training Center at Smiley Heights; to restore the False River ecosystem; to resurface La. 3038 in Ascension Parish. Funds are also requested for the Pointe Coupee Port and BREC’s Central Community Park.
