LSU is No. 1 in the state among public and private universities for graduates’ midcareer salaries, with an average of $83,500, according to a new report from PayScale.com. However, the report also notes that Louisiana Tech is No. 1 for graduates’ starting salaries: $45,900. LSU came in second for starting salaries at $44,100; Tulane is third at $43,800. Tulane also came in second for graduates’ midcareer salaries—$81,800—while Louisiana Tech came in third at $79,800. LSU is placed ahead of other state schools for overall salary potential yet is No. 15 in the central-south region, which includes Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee and Kentucky. Vanderbilt University tops the regional list for both starting and midcareer salary potential: $48,300 and $104,000, respectively. Tulane is placed overall at No. 18 on the list; Louisiana Tech is at No. 22, tied with Rhodes College. The PayScale report comes on the heels of U.S. News & World Report‘s annual ranking earlier this month of the nation’s best universities, which placed Tulane at No. 51, LSU at No. 134, and Louisiana Tech at No. 199.
