Homes hit by foreclosure filings in Louisiana rose in May, when compared to the year before. Irvine, Calif.-based RealtyTrac says that 1,835 homes received some sort of foreclosure action in May, ranging from an initial notice of default to repossession by a lender. That’s down 19.8% from April, but up 5.9% from May 2010. Louisiana is bucking a national trend of declining foreclosures. Nationally, foreclosure actions were aimed at 214,927 properties, or one in every 605 housing units. That was a 2% decrease from April and a 33% decrease from May 2010. The drop is the result of a slowing housing market and lingering delays in banks’ foreclosure process. RealtyTrac says foreclosure-related actions hit one of every 1,070 Louisiana housing units in May, ranking the state 27th in the nation.
