One of the nine proposed amendments to the Louisiana Constitution appearing on the Nov. 6 ballot would give Louisiana the strongest gun laws in the country, further limiting the government’s ability to restrict gun ownership and concealment. Gov. Bobby Jindal supports the amendment, and in his latest monthly column reminds the state about what happened in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina to provide an example of why voters should support it, too. “Folks were in their homes with no electricity, no power, no 911 service, and reports of looters going door to door. That’s a time when our families need the right to defend ourselves,” the governor writes. “But, instead of protecting freedom, government officials went door to door, confiscating guns from law-abiding citizens. We just can’t let that happen again.” Read the full column here to get Jindal’s full take on the amendment.
