A small group, armed with federal funding and a desire to help others, is fighting against human trafficking in Baton Rouge. Human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery, a slippery slope that can involve men and women of all ages being forced into labor or sexual exploitation against their will. TraffickingHOPE is a campaign of Baton Rouge-based nonprofit Cyrus International, whose Rescue and Restore Coalition is one of only a dozen such anti-human trafficking groups nationally to receive federal funding. Fronts in the campaign range from LSU students raising awareness about human trafficking to volunteers bringing food and toiletries to prostitutes and strippers. Read the 225 magazine story here.
