The Business Report team was honored with six national awards for editorial excellence by the Alliance of Area Business Publishers at the organization’s annual conference this past weekend in Columbus, Ohio. In addition to the six awards for news stories and columns published in Daily Report and Business Report, founder Rolfe McCollister was honored with the AABP’s Lewis M. Conn Lifetime Achievement Award.
Business Report took home the gold in the Best Scoop category for former editor Stephanie Riegel’s reporting that Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center and Our Lady of the Lake would part ways.
“Deep sourcing and extensive interviews create a vivid picture of how business decisions impact a region,” the judges wrote.
Business Report also won awards in the following categories:
Best Feature—“This is Where You Live,” Stephanie Riegel, silver;
Best Body of Work by a Single Reporter—Riegel, gold;
Best Investigative Reporting—“LSU Ag Center Title IX,” Riegel, silver;
Best Local Coverage of a National Business/Economic Story—“Speak No Evil,” Caitie Burkes, silver;
Best Bylined Commentary—“Viewpoint: The Big Picture,” Riegel, gold.
More than 100 entries from dozens of leading business publications in the U.S., Canada and Australia were judged by a team of faculty members at the University of Missouri School of Journalism for this year’s awards competition. AABP member publications are divided into small, medium and large groups for awards, with Business Report competing with the nation’s largest business publications, including those in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Dallas.
