A local entrepreneur has launched a new venture: helping other entrepreneurs.
Kasra Khalili, CEO and co-founder of mentorship pairing platform Mintor, has created a Baton Rouge chapter of Startup Grind.
Startup Grind is designed to create communities of entrepreneurs through monthly networking and speaking events, partnering with Google for Startups.
The Baton Rouge chapter launched Tuesday night at Tin Roof Brewing Company with its first speaker: Matthew Armstrong, CEO and co-founder of Block Lawncare.
Armstrong launched Block Lawncare with co-founder Jacob Jolibois in January as an on-demand lawn care app.
Framed as “fireside chats,” à la President Franklin Roosevelt, the monthly meetings swap local entrepreneurial stories and advice. According to the group’s website, it has 75 members to date.
Genevieve Silverman, executive director of the Research Park Corporation that houses Khalili’s company, says this new group will help build the entrepreneurial culture in Baton Rouge.
“We love to see them building an entrepreneurial culture here with the support of the ecosystem and from entrepreneurs themselves,” Silverman says.
The next meeting, Jan. 21, will be led by Vishal Vasanji, CEO and co-founder of Relief Telemed. Interested attendees can sign up online here.
