The Atomic Pop Shop record store has fizzled out in Mid City, closing after seven years in business.
Kerry Beary, the store’s owner, announced the closure on Facebook Thursday, explaining she is relocating to North Carolina and will move her operations there.
Located on Government Street near Baton Rouge High, the post says the record store’s last day in business will be April 21.
“Many of you already know that we (Kerry & Jeff) are relocating to Charlotte for an amazing opportunity,” the post reads.
Beary is in negotiations with a local buyer who is interested in purchasing the business, though it would operate under a new name. A decision on the sale is expected by April 1.
“If the sale of the business doesn’t work out, we will be selling as much of our inventory, fixtures, furniture, and everything else,” the post reads. “We don’t want to move it all!
The Atomic Pop Shop opened in 2011. Beary told WAFB-TV the ongoing construction on Government Street and a lack of parking contributed to her decision to move.
