Tuesday -- The Louisiana Department of Revenue will hold a community forum to discuss the new tax deduction for school tuition and supplies at 6 p.m. at the 8585 Archives Ave.
Wednesday -- Manners of the Heart will hold its second annual Heart in Hand Awards at 7 p.m. in the LSU Rural Life Museum. The event honors organizations and volunteers that are working to transform the children into respectable, responsible adults. Tickets are $50. For more information, go to mannersoftheheart.org.
Thursday -- David Madden, chair of the Louisiana Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission, will perform a one man play at noon in the State Library. Madden's play, The Sultana Sinks as Lincoln's Funeral Train Crosses America deals with the disaster that killed more than 1,400 Union soldiers. The free event is sponsored by the Foundation for Historical Louisiana.
Thursday -- Former Gov. Buddy Roemer will give a lecture about President Abraham Lincoln at 6 p.m. at the Old Governor's Mansion. The event "Lincoln: The Politician" is sponsored by the Foundation for Historical Louisiana and the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission. Admission is free for FHL members and $10 for guests.
Feb. 19 -- LSU’s Women in Business program will hold a brown bag luncheon from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ione Burden Conference Center. The event, hosted by Carol Carter of the Stephenson Entrepreneurship Institute in LSU's E.J. Ourso College of Business, will discuss understanding and developing your core competencies. Feb. 20 -- YelpBR will hold three dog adoption events. The first will be from 9 a.m. to noon across from the Red Stick Farmers Market. The other two will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Acme Oyster House parking lot and at the Lake Sherwood Shopping Center. All dogs have been spayed or neutered, received shots, examined by veterinarians and chipped. Cost per adoption is $70.
Feb. 20 -- The American Advertising Federation–Baton Rouge will hold its annual Addy Awards at 7:30 p.m. in the Louisiana State Museum. The awards salute the best local advertising. Tickets are $30 for students and $60 for professionals. To buy tickets, visit addy2010.com.
Feb. 22 -- A seminar on doing business in the Caribbean will be held at 1 p.m. in LSU's Louisiana Business & Technology Center. The event is sponsored by the LBTC, the Louisiana Small Business Development Center Technology Center at LSU and the U.S. Export Assistance Center in New Orleans. The event will discuss key Caribbean business markets and the best sectors for U.S. exports. Admission is free, but participants are urged to register at lsbdc.org.
Feb. 26 -- A seminar on how to optimize your Web site to appear on search engines will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Gio's Mezza Luna in Prairieville.
