What is your greatest professional accomplishment?
To have played a part in transforming Louisiana’s workers compensation industry from one that was on the verge of collapse to one that is a standard of excellence in our country.
What was your first job?
I was a runner (courier) for the old Capital Bank & Trust Company.
What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
Give people more than they expect.
Who do you most admire in the local business community & why?
Mr. John Barton Sr, who was a driving force behind the creation of the Baton Rouge Area Foundation—which has quietly become a model by which other community foundations are measured.
If you could have any job other than your own, what would it be?
Travel consultant. I enjoy planning trips and seeing people discover new things.
What is the greatest personal or professional obstacle you’ve overcome?
Going into business for myself. Without financial advice from one lifelong friend and spiritual advice from another, I’d never have done it.
If you started over, what would you do differently?
I’ve enjoyed the journey. The tough times teach lessons. I’m not sure I’d change anything.
What is your prescription for life?
My father’s favorite poem “If” by Rudyard Kipling. It contains profound advice on how life should be lived.

“Apollo 13” because it celebrated the tenacity of the American spirit and reminds us miracles happen every day.

If you could change one thing about Baton Rouge, what would it be?
That the people of Baton Rouge would all wake up one morning focused on the positives, and believing in ourselves.
What is your greatest hope for Baton Rouge?
That leaders from other cities will one day travel here to learn how we transformed Baton Rouge into a model of innovative economic development and quality of life.
