Workers’ compensation insurance rates should fall again this year, the Louisiana Department of Insurance says. A new report by the National Council on Compensation Insurance, which analyzes workers’ comp in 35 states, says Louisiana showed a 17.4% drop in loss costs. Most carriers use the NCCI’s annual filing when calculating their rates. Carriers will begin adopting new rates by filing with the department as early as late March, and, if approved, begin using the new rates within 45 days. Workers’ comp rates went down 8.6% last year and 15.8% in 2007, the department says.
