Weekend offers fun for the active and the artsy

The weekend offers opportunities for both the active and the artsy, with various events designed for all tastes. First, laissez les bon temps rouler on Friday, when the Center for French and Francophone studies at LSU presents its fifth annual night of Francophone cinema from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. at the Manship Theatre. Between courses of baguettes, desserts, wine and cheese, you’ll enjoy four of the finest French-language films, some of which have never before screened in the United States. Once you’re done watching, refresh with a French breakfast of croissants and coffee. General admission is $20, $10 for students. If you don’t spend Friday night at the cinema, suit up Saturday and participate in Baton Rouge’s biggest racing event—the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Every year more than 12,000 runners and walkers participate in this famed 5K, which raises money and awareness towards finding a cure for breast cancer. There’s still time to pre-register for the race at komenbatonrouge.org. The registration fee for the race is $30, and the race lineup starts at 7 a.m. at the Old Front Nine of the LSU golf course. And this weekend the Baton Rouge Gallery holds the annual Flatscape video series, featuring contemporary video art by artists all over the country. The gallery sent out a call to artists for videos on any subject, limited only by duration—no video could exceed 15 minutes. You can see the results of their labor this Friday and Saturday night.
