Gov. John Bel Edwards took some snaps at quarterback for the LSU Tigers during the team’s practice Tuesday, as the squad prepared for its New Year’s Day bowl game against Notre Dame.

“Stood in for Danny Etling for a few snaps at practice with @LSUfootball today. I don’t want to brag, but watch this video to see what happened,” the Democractic governor tweeted Tuesday evening. “Thanks for having me by for a visit @Coach_EdOrgeron and the team. #GeauxTigers #lagov”

The governor, a former quarterback and pitcher at Amite High School, showed off his arm after giving a speech to the team, according to a video posted to Twitter by the team. Practicing alongside Edwards was running back Derrius Guice, who missed practices last week.

“I’m excited about this game,” Edwards told the team. “You represent a fine institution, and certainly yourselves and your communities and your families, but the whole state of Louisiana. And the state is proud of this team.”

The Tigers face off with the Fighting Irish Monday in the Citrus Bowl.
