Nancy Zito, a veteran teacher in the New York school system, has launched the Gardere Community Christian School in one of the city’s most impoverished areas. The school, off Gardere Lane, has a modest but growing tutoring program for 45 boys and girls. The plan is to officially launch the school next month, with a prekindergarten class and add a grade each year. “So much of what we are doing is about building relationships,” Zito says. “It’s not about me. It’s about people coming together. There’s a need there, and God will meet that need. There’s a real desire from parents in the neighborhood to see this through.” Read the 225 magazine profile about Zito here.
