University House will undergo a $15 million renovation to address some problems that have plagued the student housing complex near the LSU North Gates  since it was sold for $108.6 million in 2015.

Previously called The Standard, University House reportedly halted new leases and moved some residents from the property over the summer because of what owners described as “substantial defects” and “pervasive leaking.”

The owners of the 287-unit complex, The Scion Group, sued LMK Baton Rouge Construction in 2017 seeking $3.4 million for needed repairs to the property.

A permit approved for the renovation says it will include upgrades to the building facade and roof as well as some mechanical work and plumbing installation for two 1,000-pound grease interceptors. Lincoln Builders of Baton Rouge is listed as the contractor for the project.

When reached by phone this morning, the contractor’s project manager said he wasn’t authorized to speak about the work. A representative of The Scion Group was unable to be reached before this morning’s deadline for more information.

The 2015 University House sale, which marked the most expensive commercial transaction in Baton Rouge on record, was featured in July as part of a Business Report cover package that analyzed the assessments of more than a dozen of the largest commercial transactions in the parish between 2014 and 2016.
