If there’s a local burger you’ve been dying to try, you might want to wait until DIG magazine’s inaugural Burger & Beer Week to give it a shot.

Forty local restaurants—ranging from Barcadia to The Londoner to Mahony’s Irish Pub and Thai Kitchen—have signed on to take part in the week-long event, which will take place from Oct. 24-29. A portion of the proceeds from the week will benefit the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank.

Participating bars and local restaurants throughout the Capital City will discount featured burgers to $5 all week long. Beers from SweetWater Brewing Co., Saint Arnold Brewing Co. and Tin Roof Brewery—all sponsors—also will be available at discounted prices so they can be paired with the burgers.

Maria Connolly, DIG magazine’s brand ambassador, says diners at participating restaurants will receive a Burger & Beer Week menu when they sit down for the dine-in only event. The menu of available $5 burgers is currently being finalized, Connolly says.

During the week, diners are encouraged to take a picture of anything—for example, their burger, their beer, a selfie or their dinner party—and share it on social media with the hashtag #EatBR.

DIG will donate $1 to the food bank—which took in nearly four feet of water during the August flood—for every hashtagged photo.

This isn’t the first time DIG has been charitable to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. Connolly says the magazine has donated $5,000 each of the last two years to the food bank during Restaurant Week and $35,000 over a period spanning over four years.

“We found that they’re one of the charitable components of our city that was really devastated,” Connolly says.

DIG is employing the strategy for Burger & Beer Week as it does for Restaurant Week, Connolly explains.

“We modeled it off the same strategy we’ve done for Restaurant Week,” Connolly says. “The idea is to try to go into the community and try discounted burgers they’ve haven’t been able to.”
