The season’s second tropical depression formed this morning in the far eastern Atlantic Ocean. The depression has maximum sustained winds near 30 mph and is centered about 280 miles west of the southernmost Cape Verde Islands off Africa’s western coast. The depression is moving west about 13 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center in Coral Gables, Fla. Forecasters expect the depression to reach tropical storm status within the next day. If so, it would be the first of the season and named Ana. The depression is forecast to gradually turn to the west-northwest and then to the northwest. If this occurs, the depression might not affect any land. For the National Hurricane Center’s Web site, click here.
