Thermaldyne is investing $50 million in a West Baton Rouge industrial waste reclamation plant set to open later this year, bringing 75 new jobs, said the Baton Rouge Area Chamber in an update announcement today.

First announced in 2015, the project has since expanded from an original investment of $19 million and 45 jobs.

The reclamation plant will give Louisiana oil companies an in-state option for management of their oil bearing materials. Thermaldyne’s facility will use heat to separate contaminants, like soil, sludge and filter cake, from oil bearing streams, the announcement says. Through this process, materials that would otherwise have been disposed of through traditional disposal methods such as landfills can be separated, resulting in reusable products.

The 75 jobs will have an average salary of $80,000 a year.
