A first-of-its-kind event for LSU, set to take place Saturday, March 9, will bring together innovative thinkers from the university and Baton Rouge community who will each give an 18-minute “talk of their life” focused on the power of ideas. The TEDxLSU: Evolve conference will essentially be a local version of the annual TED Conference in Long Beach, Calif., at which some of the world’s leading thinkers are invited to speak. TED Conference speakers have included Bill Gates, Al Gore and Jane Goodall, among others. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design. The national nonprofit organization grew out of a conference first held 25 years ago, meant to highlight “ideas worth spreading.” The TEDxLSU Conference is sponsored by the Janice H. Pellar Creative Arts Entrepreneurship Project at the LSU College of Music & Dramatic Arts. “This is the first TEDx event at LSU, and we expect it to be even bigger next year,” says Joey Watson, TEDxLSU event curator and one of 225 magazine’s People to Watch 2013. The event will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. in the Reilly Theatre at LSU. A limited number of tickets will be available due to the size of the venue; however, students and the general public will be invited to a live-stream viewing at the Shaver Theatre in the College of Music & Dramatic Arts. More details and a full list of speakers can be found here.
