Louisiana residents who owe back taxes have a two-month window to pay up without a penalty charge. The state Department of Revenue announced the rules for a tax amnesty that will be in effect in September and October. The program will allow taxpayers to settle account balances and overdue audit assessments with no penalties. Delinquent taxpayers still must pay half the interest on what they owe. The Legislature approved the amnesty program in hopes of raising over $150 million to reduce budget cuts.

Details are at the revenue department’s Web site revenue.louisiana.gov.
