A new report says Louisiana puts a low tax burden on businesses. Taxes gobbled up 12.22% of business profits in 2006, compared with the national average of 16.7%, says Anderson Economic Group, a Michigan consulting firm. Anderson has been compiling the list for three years; this is the first time the state has made the top 10. In 2005, taxes took up nearly 19% of business profits. North Carolina was rated as having the lightest tax burden, with fees taking up 10.88% of profits, while Montana took the biggest bite from business, with taxes accounting to 30.6% of profits. Businesses paid $5.1 billion in taxes in Louisiana during 2006, while getting $41.8 billion in profits. See the full report here.
