The consortium of the Shaw Group and Westinghouse Electric has started pouring concrete for a Chinese nuclear power plant. The foundation for the Sanmen nuclear power plant in Zhejiang province is being laid, a move that Shaw calls the “true beginning” of construction. The plant is the first AP1000 nuclear plant in the world and the first of four reactors Shaw and Westinghouse will build in China. The reactors in Sanmen should start operating around 2014.
