The East Baton Rouge School Board is scheduled to approve planning documents outlining the search for a new superintendent tonight.
The consulting firm hired by the board in October, JG Consulting, is presenting a draft application and work plan to the board tonight, as well as the results of public and private input meetings the group held last year.
The board is looking to replace outgoing Superintendent Warren Drake, who is retiring in June after five years in the post. The firm plans to conduct a nationwide search for Drake’s replacement.
According to the proposed timeline, applications for the job will open Jan. 17 and close Feb. 16.
JG Consulting is then expected to present the candidates to the board and select those for in-person interviews in early March with a goal of naming a single finalist in April.
Among the qualifications listed in the proposed application are: five or more years of leadership experience preferably in PreK-12 education; expertise in finance, budget management, and legislative enactment; and experience in strategic planning.
The application also asks for candidates who are a “progressive leader” and “committed to serving the district and East Baton Rouge community for the long term.”
From the input meetings, JG Consulting is also recommending the board request the finalist submit a 90-day strategic entry plan to ensure a smooth transition, and hold a retreat or workshop for the board and the new superintendent.
