Ronald Rodgers, who serves as a corporate education liaison with the University of Phoenix, says he plans to run for a north Baton Rouge House seat. Rodgers says he will run for the District 63 seat as a Democrat. The district, which covers Scotlandville and Baker, is currently represented by Rep. Dalton Honore, a Democrat who won a special election last year. Barbara Thomas, a Republican who heads a nonprofit agency that helps pregnant women, announced last month she plans to run for the seat. Rodgers serves on the Baton Rouge Area Chamber’s Education Council and is a mentor with Volunteers in Public Schools. Rodgers says education is the catalyst to a strong economic future. The House election is set for Oct. 22, and qualifying will begin Sept. 6.
