The number of retailers who say they plan to increase the number of stores in the upcoming year is up 16 percentage points. The National Retail Federation says 41% of executives polled for its annual report say they intend to increase the number of domestic stores, compared with 25% in 2010. Twenty-five percent of retailers say they will expand overseas, up from 21% in 2010. NRF based the survey on a poll of more than 300 retail executives. In another sign that the worst of the recession has passed, 58% of retailers say reducing and containing costs will remain a companywide strategic initiative, down from 81% in 2010.
