Gary Crowton, LSU’s offensive coordinator, has accepted a coaching job at Maryland. The Times-Picayune reports that Crowton accepted the offer to become the Terrapins’ offensive coordinator. Crowton told The Shreveport Times Wednesday that Maryland offered him a three-year contract at $500,000 a year. Crowton had been with the Tigers since 2007 and had one year left on his contract. LSU won a BCS Championship in his first season running the offense. But over the past two seasons the Tigers’ offense was inconsistent and underachieving, and many fans called for Crowton’s ouster. Crowton replaces James Franklin, who left Maryland to become the head coach of Vanderbilt. He rejoins Randy Edsall, the new Maryland coach who worked with Crowton at Boston College in the early 1990s.
