Iberville Parish is giving people their first look at what the new medical complex planned on La. 1 in south Plaquemine will look like when it opens in 2014. Renderings of the facility were released this morning by the parish, which is using its $22 million share of the Hurricane Gustav recovery money from the Louisiana Office of Community Development to fund construction, along with a $3 million state appropriation to build and equip the facility. The 43,000-square-foot facility will be operated by Ochsner Health System and will feature a freestanding emergency department and full-service health center providing primary care and specialty services. The emergency department will contain 24 patient exam/procedure rooms, including two trauma rooms equipped to handle a range of emergencies. Iberville Parish President J. Mitchell Ourso Jr. says he expects the project to go out to bid in December, with construction beginning in February 2013 and project completion by the first quarter of 2014. “We have received tremendous community support for this project, and we are ready to serve the residents of Iberville parish,” says Eric McMillen, Ochsner Baton Rouge interim CEO. “We anticipate that between 10,000 and 12,000 patients will be served in the facility’s emergency department each year.” See renderings of the facility, courtesy Grace & Hebert Architects, here, and here.
