A major waste disposal corporation has taken over the Recycling Foundation. IESI LA Corporation, a subsidiary of Progressive Waste Solutions, is now the owner of the Recycling Foundation. The Recycling Foundation, which was started in Baton Rouge nearly 20 years ago, serves more than 500 businesses in Baton Rouge and Lafayette. The company also holds curbside recycling contracts for East Baton Rouge Parish, Lafayette, Zachary, Youngsville and Carencro. Phil Smith, a regional vice president for IESI, says the move will allow the company to enhance its recycling services across the state. “We have been at the forefront of recycling in other parts of the country, and we intend to tap into our knowledge and expertise to increase recycling here in Louisiana,” he says. IESI has recently been raising its profile in Louisiana: Earlier this summer the company took over New Orleans-based SDT Waste and Debris Services.
