It’s time for a showdown. The proposal for merging Southern University at New Orleans with the University of New Orleans has Gov. Bobby Jindal’s support, and now a majority of the Board of Regents is behind it. Opponents of the merger have called in professional agitators, Rev. Al Sharpton and Rev. Jesse Jackson, to join former Congressman Cleo Fields, says Business Report Publisher Rolfe McCollister. “The facts are clear and colorless: SUNO has the worst graduation rate in the state and is the lowest performing historically black college in the nation,” McCollister says. “The governor has said that is unacceptable and must change, and the Legislature should take a stand now.” Read the full column here.
