BATON ROUGE (AP) — Louisiana utility regulators could decide today whether to put a major power plant project on a lengthy hiatus.
Entergy Louisiana is recommending a delay of at least three years in its plan to covert a generator at the Little Gypsy plant in southeastern Louisiana to burn petroleum coke — rather than natural gas.
The Public Service Commission approved the project in late 2007. But since then, natural gas prices have fallen sharply and the project has escalated in cost from $1 billion to $1.7 billion. There are also questions about how Congress might restrict emissions.
The PSC ordered Entergy Louisiana last month to restudy the project.
