ProSource Wholesale Floor Coverings has signed a lease for 50,000 square feet of retail space adjacent to Hobby Lobby at 1683 O’Neal Lane and plans to open an outlet center at the site that will sell pallets of inventory.

The new store will be unlike ProSource’s other retail locations, which are showrooms that contain samples of flooring that must be custom ordered. The outlet center will have entire quantities of merchandise available for sale on the spot.

“There will be a pile sitting on a pallet on the floor so you can buy it right there and walk out the door with it,” says Ryan Kennedy, who co-owns the local ProSource locations as well as Menzie Flooring and Stone Co. with his parents and siblings.

Most of the inventory sold at the outlet will be leftover or closeout merchandise, “stuff we’re trying to sell,” Kennedy says.

The space was formerly occupied by a furniture liquidator. Kennedy hopes to move in by early June.

The new outlet store will be located just a few blocks from the site at 16575 Commercial Ave. where ProSource recently announced it will build a new 44,575-square-foot warehouse to replace the 30,000-square-foot warehouse in Baker it has outgrown. The warehouse will cost about $1.2 million and is scheduled for completion by year’s end.

ProSource is a national chain of franchise-owned stores that sell several types of flooring like tile, wood and vinyl, as well as kitchen and bathroom countertops, hardware and cabinets.

The Kennedys own two ProSource stores in the Capital Region, including one on Airline Highway and one in Gonzales, as well as Menzie Flooring & Stone, which is also located on Commercial Avenue.
