As of this afternoon, police are still investigating the bomb threat that was phoned in to the Baton Rouge campus around 10:30 this morning, which triggered a complete evacuation and has led to the cancellation of all on-campus events for the time being. The campus evacuation was calm, for the most part, one LSU law student tells Daily Report, adding that it took her about two hours to travel just two blocks from the law school to the campus gates. “Every single exit from the university was at a complete standstill,” says the student, who asked not to be named. Traffic gridlock was reported throughout the campus area for hours after the evacuation was ordered. There are 30,000 students, professors and university employees located on the Baton Rouge campus on most days, but it was not clear how many were present at the time of the threat today. By midafternoon, the LSU campus was largely deserted and roads were closed, though some people and cars were still moving about campus. The university sent a message to students at 1:36 p.m. telling them not to return. State police bomb technicians are on the scene, says Louisiana State Police Capt. Doug Cain. He says authorities are also talking to their counterparts in Texas, North Dakota and Ohio to see if there were any similarities to threats that universities in those states received Friday—none of which turned out to be credible.
