To help combat Baton Rouge’s chronic litter problem—and boost Mid City’s curb appeal—Elifin Realty is hosting a “plogging” event later this month.

With origins in Sweden, plogging combines jogging or walking with litter pickup.

Plogging for Baton Rouge is set to take place on Wednesday, June 13, at 6 p.m. Participants will meet at Curbside Burgers and fan out to nearby neighborhoods for an hour. Afterwards, “ploggers” will reconvene at Curbside, where happy hour specials will be offered and awards will be handed out for “Most Litter Plogged” and “Most Unique Piece of Litter Plogged.”

After seeing a video of a plogging event in Sweden that went viral last month, Elifin President and CEO Mathew Laborde shared the video with his Facebook followers.

“All these people were commenting on it, saying they wanted to get involved,” says Laborde, who set up shop in the area in 2016. “Most of them either lived or worked in Mid City.”

Elifin Realty will provide gloves, water and trash bags for the free, public and pet-friendly event. Those wishing to take part are asked to RSVP online.
