The city-parish Planning Commission is set to vote again on an ordinance that would open up advertising allowed on bus benches. The ordinance that will go before the commission today sets guidelines for franchise agreements to place advertising on CATS bus stop benches. The measure was approved by the Planning Commission in September but voted down by the Metro Council a month later. Supporters say the change is needed to break up a monopoly on bus bench advertising. For a recent Business Report story about the issue, click here.
The commission is also set to vote on rezoning for a nearly 29,000-square-foot performing arts center at St. Joseph’s Academy. The center will be built behind the school’s activity center. Planning Commission staffers have recommended the rezoning.
A rezoning that would allow for a future expansion of Blue Bayou Waterpark and Dixie Landin’ amusement park is also on the commission’s agenda. The owner of the park wants to rezone 85 acres next door. That request has also been recommended by staffers. —Timothy Boone
