The Planning Commission will take up the East Baton Rouge Parish Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plan for consideration at its meeting Monday afternoon.
The 363-page plan calls for more than 100 miles of on-road bicycle paths and more than 250 miles of off-road paths and trails to be developed throughout the parish. The plan is a multiyear collaborative effort between the state Department of Transportation and Development and BREC to develop a plan for a cohesive network of pedestrian and bike paths stretching across the parish. The agencies contracted with consultant firm Arcadis US Inc. and Toole Design Group to develop the plan.
The Complete Streets Citizen Advisory Committee received the plan at its mid-April meeting, and if the Planning Commission approves it as well, the plan will move forward to the Metro Council for consideration in June. If approved, the plan would be incorporated into FuturEBR, the 20-year city-parish master plan.
In a report, planning staff recommended the commission approve the plan, saying it is needed to accomplish transportation goals outlined in FuturEBR, as well as parks and recreation goals.
Also being considered Monday afternoon are requests from Build Baton Rouge to rezone several properties along Plank Road to light commercial use, part of a larger effort to revitalize the north Baton Rouge corridor.
A small planned use development is being proposed for property near South Harrell’s Ferry Road and O’Neal Lane. Forty-six townhomes are proposed for the 5-acre development by Nick FaKouri to be called Chapel Hill.
Also up for approval is the final development plan for The Grove Townhomes, which proposes some 247 townhome lots as well as common space to be developed over 27 acres in Richard Carmouche’s The Grove, a 118-acre mixed-use development near the Mall of Louisiana.
The meeting will be held via video conference available for viewing at www.brla.gov, on Metro 21 (Cox Channel 21) and on the City of Baton Rouge/Parish of East Baton Rouge Facebook page via Facebook Live. Read the full agenda.
