Baton Rouge will host two new movie projects in the coming weeks, with Ethan Hawke’s Blaze and a fantasy film named Starbright coming to the Capital City for filming
Starbright, a $26.1 million movie feature film currently shooting in Oklahoma, will build a set at Celtic Studios in January, says the studio’s executive director Patrick Mulhearn.
The small-budget Ethan Hawke-directed movie Blaze will also film in Baton Rouge. Mulhearn says Starbright is expected to film for around 20 days. Starbright Corp., the company behind the film, plans to spend around $9 million in Louisiana over 90 days of filming, including $5 million on payroll, according to documents filed with Louisiana Economic Development, which handles the state’s film tax credit program.
“It’s too early to tell the exact amount of credits they will be eligible to receive,” Louisiana Entertainment Executive Director Chris Stelly says in a statement.
Officials with LED will review the production’s books to determine how much in tax credit dollars the film will be eligible for.
Hawke issued a request for interns and unpaid extras for Blaze beginning this week and lasting until Jan. 13. A press release describes the film as a “gonzo” film about the life, death and music of the blues musician Blaze Foley.
