Former LSU Chancellor Sean O’Keefe, who survived a plane crash last year in Alaska that killed five people, says he is no longer wearing a back or neck brace. O’Keefe told U.S. News & World Report his recovery has mystified doctors because he broke his top vertebra, an injury that commonly results in death or paralysis. “The fact I’m alive is a miracle unparalleled to anything I’ve ever gone through. The randomness of all this convinces me of divine intervention—for purposes unknown to me,” O’Keefe told the magazine. “Life’s good and every day is a bonus.” O’Keefe, who is CEO of EADS North America, says he’s convinced he will be fully healed and ready to travel back to Alaska for a fishing trip.
