Wanting to remain in the area, but deciding it was time for a change, Baton Rouge-boutique Oh Baby! is moving nearly a mile up Jefferson Highway to a new home in the Bocage Village shopping center.

After 20 years at the strip center that also houses New York Bagel Co., shop owner Mary Lou James says she wanted to remain in the Bocage area because it’s a neighborhood that everyone is drawn to, and it’s also where she grew up.

The move will also expand the shop to 3,000 square feet, offering a more convenient layout for the store, says James, while allowing for a larger back room for inventory.

The shop will have a soft opening on Saturday and a grand opening on July 19, when 20% of the day’s proceeds will go towards Our Lady of the Lake’s Children’s Hospital.

“I love the traditional, Southern dress of babies,” says James, who worked as a dietician at Catholic High for 38 years before retiring. “Dress babies like babies, they’ll grow up soon enough.”
