Drop in gas prices makes little difference: It costs an average of 54 cents a mile to own and drive a new car, according to a report from AAA. That’s only 0.1 a cent less than what was reported in 2008. While gas prices have dropped dramatically, AAA says the savings at the pump are offset by rising insurance premiums, finance charges and other taxes and fees. The 54-cents-a-mile figure is for sedans such as the Ford Tarus, Honda Accord and Toyota Corolla. SUV owners saw the biggest break from falling gas prices, with their costs dropping by 1.3 cents per mile to 68.4 cents.

Get back: Beatles fans will have a chance to add substantially to their collections when a digitally remastered version of the band’s catalog becomes available in September. Apple Corps Ltd. and EMI Music announced they will be releasing the new discs worldwide Sept. 9, the same day as the release of a video game, “The Beatles: Rock Band.” Each of the dozen CDs will include the original U.K. album art and new, expanded liner notes. For a limited time, each CD will also be embedded with a brief documentary film about the album. There has been no breakthrough yet on negotiations to get The Beatles’ extensive catalog available for legal downloading, through services such as iTunes.
