Time to pay the piper: The deadline for individuals to file their Louisiana state income tax returns is Friday. That’s also the last day people can request an extension to file their 2008 returns. Nearly 2 million people are expected to file income taxes this year; as of Tuesday 1.14 million had filed, according to officials with the Louisiana Department of Revenue.
Less buying: Global automobile sales are expected to drop by 15% in 2009 and the market won’t shake off the effects of the worldwide recession until 2012. R.L. Polk & Co. says 55.2 million vehicles are expected to be sold this year, with China and India propelling the demand. Polk also predicts that Asian manufacturers will grab 47% of the U.S. market share this year, with the troubled American automakers getting 44%.
