Time for hunters to stock up: The state is marking its annual Second Amendment Weekend Sales Tax Holiday from today through Sunday. A wide range of hunting supplies will be exempted from all state and local sales taxes, including shotguns, rifles, pistols, revolvers, ammunition, hunting apparel and off-road vehicles designed for hunting. More chances to be a winner: Indulging the dream of hitting a big Powerball jackpot is going to double in cost in Louisiana. Starting Jan. 15, the multistate lottery game gets a new look for its 20th anniversary: better odds of winning, higher consolation prizes—and a $2 per play price tag. By then, though, Louisiana players wanting to spend only a buck, or get more combinations for their dollars, may have the chance to play another interstate jackpot game, Mega Millions. If Mega Millions comes to Louisiana, the big jackpot games will be four nights a week. Mega Millions draws on Tuesday and Friday nights. The Louisiana Lottery Commission has sent a report to four legislative committees that would have to approve rule changes to allow the game, which costs $1 a shot. The concept largely is the same as Powerball’s: Pick five numbers from a pool of 56, then add the Megaball number from a pool of 46. Jackpots start at a minimum of $12 million.
