New digs: Sparkhound, a Baton Rouge-headquartered business and technology consultant, announced today it is expanding operations into the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The company says the expansion will enable it to better serve its existing client base, offer more customized services to prospects and further grow its business in the target area. It will be the company’s second office outside Baton Rouge, with the other being in Houston. Sparkhound has more than 130 full-time and part-time employees.
Golf clap: Monroe native and LSU alumnus David Toms was given the Payne Stewart Award on Tuesday, in honor of the three-time major champion who died in a plane crash on his way to the Tour Championship in 1999. The award is given to a player who “shares Stewart’s respect for golf tradition, commitment to charity and presentation of himself and the sport through his dress and conduct,” according to the PGA website. Toms, whose 13 wins include the PGA Championship in 2001, has a foundation that works with at-risk children, and he is building a golf academy for underprivileged kids. He has raised more than $2 million through a charity golf tournament benefiting children who have been abused or neglected.
