Home sweet home: Louisiana Realtors held a groundbreaking ceremony today at its new headquarters at 821 Main St. in downtown. The groundbreaking symbolizes a new beginning for LR, as the association has been without a permanent office since a fire destroyed its previous headquarters on Bennington Avenue in May 2013. The association had initially considered demolishing the 93-year-old downtown home and rebuilding a new office in its place, but it backed off the plan after some preservationists objected and will now proceed with an adaptive reuse of the building, formerly known as the Cangelosi Home.  Building rendering

Left on the table: Louisiana taxpayers are leaving tens of millions of property insurance rebates unclaimed again this year. Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon says more than $50 million in rebates remains unclaimed for the Louisiana Citizens Property Insurance Corp.’s 2010 assessment. The deadline to claim a rebate for that assessment is Dec. 31. All property insurance policyholders—whether they are insured by Citizens or not—pay the Citizens assessment each year. Policyholders can claim rebates for assessments charged in years 2010 through 2014. To date, 61% or $269 million of the funds assessed during those years remains unclaimed. Individuals and businesses can claim rebates online.

The next big thing: State and local officials from Cameron Parish will join executives from Venture Global LNG on Wednesday afternoon next week to announce plans for a liquefied natural gas export facility near the City of Cameron, just south of Lake Charles. The approximately 203-acre project site lies along the Calcasieu Ship Channel where it meets the Gulf of Mexico, according to a press release issued today. Further details and economic impact projections will be announced at a press conference to be held in Cameron Parish on Wednesday at noon.
