On the road again: Kentucky’s U.S. Senate candidates are bringing in a pair of potential presidential candidates to help boost voter turnout in the final week of one of the country’s most closely watched Senate races. The Associated Press reports U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren will campaign with Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes in Louisville on Tuesday, while Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal will appear with Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell on Wednesday. Jindal will appear with McConnell at the Restore America Rally in Louisville.
The down low: U.S. benchmark crude prices will fall to $70 per barrel next year, according to a new forecast published today by Goldman Sachs. It’s an outlook that suggests the recent and pronounced slide in oil prices isn’t a temporary phenomenon. As FuelFix.com reports, the decline is expected due to oil production growing at a faster pace than demand, leading to a global oil market that’s oversupplied. One thing leads to another: New research shows that the BP oil spill left an oily “bathub ring” on the sea floor that’s about the size of Rhode Island, The Associated Press reports. The study by David Valentine, the chief scientist on the federal damage assessment research ships, estimates that about 10 million gallons of oil coagulated on the floor of the Gulf of Mexico around the damaged Deepwater Horizon oil rig. Valentine said the spill left other splotches containing even more oil. This study is included in today’s Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
