Opening soon: Walmart will open its latest Baton Rouge location, a Neighborhood Market at 1150 Coursey Blvd., with a ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony at 9 a.m. Wednesday. The new 42,000-square-foot store will employ approximately 95 full- and part-time workers, and will be open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. To mark the opening, Walmart officials will present a $8,000 check from the Walmart Foundation to local community groups, including local schools and the Baton Rouge fire and police departments.
At the podium: Two Republican candidates running for lieutenant governor—Sen. Elbert Guillory and former Plaquemines Parish president Billy Nungesser—will address the Ronald Reagan Newsmaker Luncheon at noon today at Cafe Americain, 7521 Jefferson Hwy. Jefferson Parish President John Young, also a Republican candidate, will be unable to attend because of a prior commitment, says the Republican Party of East Baton Rouge Parish, which is sponsoring the luncheon. Mayor Kip Holden, a Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor, was not invited. Cost for the luncheon is $17.
