High fuel prices lead to projected decline: The number of Americans who expect to travel during Independence Day weekend is expected to be down 2.5% from 2010 because fuel costs have gone up by about $1 a gallon since then. AAA says about 39 million people will travel 50 miles or more from their home in the period between June 30 and July 4. The number of people who fly over the weekend is expected to go up by 9%, while the number of people driving will drop by 3%. The high gas prices are being felt more by lower-income households. The percentage of travelers with a household income of $50,000 is expected to drop from 41% in 2010 to 33%, while the percentage of those with a household income of more than $100,000 will go from 26% to 35%.
Faster, stronger and clearer: Apple will introduce a new iPhone in September that features a stronger chip for faster data processing, along with a more advanced camera, according to Bloomberg News. The new version of the top-selling device will contain the A5 chip introduced in the iPad 2, and an 8-megapixel camera, up from the 5-megapixel model found in the current iPhone. Apple has pushed back the release of the redesigned iPhone to coincide with the release of its iOS 5 operating system.
